Staying with a host family in Liverpool for two weeks in Form 5 has had a long-term effect on this Engineering major. He remembers frequently looking up words in the dictionary on his first attempt to read The Hobbit.

This Electrical Engineering major and her high school classmates appreciated that the foreign English teachers had talked about their daily life in Europe and the US. The first English book she read was The Hunger Games and she plans to read more fiction such as The Hobbit.

A hard working secondary school teacher helped this Film major improve her English grammar for the college entrance exam. Reading The Lord of the Rings also improved her writing.

A pre-reading activity for a crime story fostered this Physics major’s creativity. Participating in the Battle of the Books made him memorise the selected titles. Reading allows him to imagine.

Despite feeling nervous, this Physics major was able to make an impromptu speech on current affairs in Hong Kong in front of his class. He likes reading books which are made into movies. His favourite is The Hobbit.

Watching The Incredibles and engaging in a subsequent discussion about the movie helped prepare this Arts major for the SBA. A teacher brought fairy tales to life when reading aloud to her.

Studying in Canada for three months after completing primary school immersed this Humanities major in an English speaking environment. After finishing a book in high school, she realised that she could read in English. She likes Harry Potter.
