Entering the Hong Kong educational system in Primary 5 and learning English was a big surprise for this Surveying major. She had to do a lot of book reports in secondary school and recalls reading The Giver.

A friendly English teacher helped this Accounting and Finance major by answering his questions and giving him exercises after-school. He enjoys dystopian fiction such as 1984 and The Giver.

Practising spoken English in a workshop organised by her secondary school required this Nursing student to use the language more than ever. She enjoys utopian and dystopian fiction such as The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games.

Reading Pride and Prejudice in Form 2 has led to a memorable class drama for this Accounting major. Another book, The Giver, placed her in a different world.

Watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in class was different to mock exams and drilling. Completing The Giver gave this Business major confidence in reading other English books.

Taking part in a secondary school drama production enhanced this Information Management major‘s confidence in speaking English. She read The Giver for a test.

A course in high school required this Law major to read Of Mice and Men and write an essay about it. She describes reading The Giver as a “life-changing” experience.

Experiential learning with a NET through drama and other activities is more effective. This Accounting major was required to read a novel each month and have discussions afterwards in secondary school. Her favourite is the Giver by Lois Lowry.
