Coming from an all English IB secondary school, this student had difficulty adjusting to the use of Cantonese at university even though she used it at home. She has developed a liking for classical literature such as Plato but couldn’t get the hang of Othello.

Sharing in primary school class enabled this Arts major to learn new vocabulary and practise speaking to an audience. She came across Old English when reading Othello in literature class.

Although learning syntax is complicated, it helped this English major acquire a clearer concept of the language. Reading Shakespeare is difficult because the vocabulary is not commonly used.

Writing a new script based on Othello was one of the activities this English major did in literature class. Reading Roald Dahl’s The BFG to her mother boosted her confidence in speaking.

A teacher from high school used poetry and movies to develop this Design major’s interest in English. She made her own films and wrote the script for a literature course. She also did role-play of Lord of the Flies and Othello in class.

Watching YouTube channels like Emma Blackery and London London was a lot of fun for this Cultural Management major. Reading is a source of inspiration to her. She read Lord of the Flies, Othello, and Cathedral in secondary school literature class.
