To prepare for GRE and IELTS, this Chemistry major read books and tried to communicate with foreigners. She read Reader’s Digest and New Concept English.

Preparing for the GRE was a multiple-stage process for this Engineering major. She was positively influenced by an article on education which she read in a tutorial school.

In junior high, this Education major read textbooks aloud and listened to the recordings to improve her speech. She also learnt New Concept English outside school.

This Psychology major stays in touch with his former middle school English teacher and they never speak in Chinese. His teacher introduced him to New Concept English.

English textbooks were rare in this Mechanical Engineering major’s middle school period. He and his classmates valued reading and studying New Concept English.

Reciting New Concept English helped this Science major’s reading and writing but not speaking. His speaking improved because of frequent contact with foreigners in Hong Kong. After reading a large number of papers, his reading speed increased.

Learning through New Concept English tapes that her father played for her was a miserable experience during primary school but this Accounting major had gotten used to it. She likes to read fiction that is simple and easy to understand.

Having conversations and writing essays in English improved this Sociology major’s language skills during a half year exchange to the US. She has read many classic novels including The Catcher in the Rye.
