Chatting with foreigners allowed this Chinese major to discover elements of the language that she didn’t learn in formal lessons. Reading Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom taught her about the lives of people in other countries.

Attending summer school in New Zealand for two months every year improved the English proficiency of this Science major. Although her class was forced to read books about Nelson Mandela and have discussions about human rights and international issues by a high school NET, the experience broadened her horizons and led her to reflect.
