A three-month exchange in Hong Kong in which English was the medium of instruction helped this Law major to improve her language ability. She needs to read law cases but has also read Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice and Steve Gerrard’s autobiography.

Performing a couple of lines in a secondary school drama encouraged this student. She says her CMI school experience limited her reading but she is trying to finish the Basic Law.

Mini games in university English classes are different for this student who attended a CMI secondary school. She reads a lot of reference books on topics such as contract law for her surveying studies.

Participating in an outward bound programme in which most participants were foreigners immersed this Accounting major in an English speaking environment. Reading a textbook on business law boosted his confidence.

In a summer debate camp, this English major learnt from new friends who attended international schools. She discovered the role of English as a global language while reading a book on the rule of law. Her favourite book is The Portrait of a Lady in which she can really see how the protagonist’s thoughts evolve.

Studying in the UK let this Law major talk to native speakers using everyday language. It took him some time to get used to reading law. He read The Sun, The Daily Mirror and The Independent. Now he reads TIME to get news from an international perspective.

Lecturers and students in university motivated this Mechanical Engineering major to improve her English. Reading materials for a Law course was hard to understand.
